After viewing this video it is obvious that these children have behavioural problems and their parents find it difficult to manage their behaviour. Therefore, I would assist the parents by listening as they vent their distress in a welcoming and warm environment; assessing the situation by observing how the parents and children interact with each other and be a support system to both parties to bridge the gap and relief the tension in the home by advising the parents to approach every situation with their children in a positive manner, using positive words or phrases to their children, giving their children a voice to express their thoughts and actions as they guide them and most importantly listen to them to yield great results. According to Dr. Judith L. Rapport who is the Chief of the Child Psychiatry Branch at the National Institute of Mental Health in New York when asked what would be her course of action for such situation in a 2015 article “Advice for Parents of Children with Behavioural and Psychiatric Disorder” as seen in this family she shared that seeking professional help is the initial way to resolve some of the behaviours displayed in this family which is another avenue I would advise the family to take to help bridge the gap in their home.
