Your 4 part capstone research presentation will provide you with the opportunity to delve into a topic addressed in the class or to research an area that is related to the course readings. Topics should be approved by the instructor in week 3. A bibliography is included at the back of this syllabus; you should also consult the journals in microsociology and sociology more broadly (Social Psychology Quarterly, Social Forces, Social Problems, Journal for the Study of Symbolic Interactionism, Annual Review of Sociology). Presentations can be in Prezi, screencast-o-matic, YouTube, or voicethread and should be applied to course content as appropriate. Presentation must be at least 15 minutes in length, include APA formatted citations and references, and include at least 5 outside academic sources.
This video describes the scientific method used in sociological research. These are the steps we will be following for your critical assignment, which will be completed in stages throughout this course. Please review this video before formulating your potential research questions to gain a better understanding of not only the project, but what the expectations are for each step of the way.
Part 1 due Sunday 3/18: Determine the research question – You will come up with a maximum of 3 research questions that you would like to potentially study and write it up in a 1-2 page (not including title and reference pages) APA formatted paper. For each question, explain what you intend on researching, why it interests you, and how it relates to the course. I will help you choose which direction to go in and approve a final research question for you in week 4.
