School Scenario Instructions

Select 1 of the 5 activity options below. You must select a different activity from the other members of your group. Post your selection to the Group Discussion Board to ensure that no activities will be duplicated. All the elements listed below the activity option must be completed. Complete the activity based on the philosophy assigned to your group at the beginning of the course. Make sure to include a current APA cover page with your name, the activity number you have chosen, and your assigned philosophy.

Activity Option 1: School Name, Mission Statement, and Core Values

· Envision that you are starting a new school based on your group’s assigned philosophy. What name would you give the school that would reflect this philosophy?

· Write a mission statement for the school that reflects your group’s assigned philosophy. You may get ideas by searching school mission statements online. If you borrow from those ideas, ensure that what you borrow represents your group’s assigned philosophy and that you cite your source.

· List 3 core values that a school following your group’s assigned philosophy would embrace. If you are unfamiliar with what core values are, you may do an online search of “school core values.” If you borrow from an existing school’s core values, ensure that the values represent your group’s assigned philosophy and that you cite your source.

Activity Option 2: School Vision Statement

· Write a paragraph or 2 about the vision/philosophy statement for a school that would completely espouse your group’s assigned philosophy. If you are unsure of what a school vision or philosophy statement is like, you may do an online search of “school vision statement.” If you choose to borrow from ideas you find, ensure those ideas convey your group’s assigned philosophy and cite your source.

Activity Option 3: Interview Questions and Answers

· Envision that you are a principal interviewing a prospective teacher for a school that follows your group’s assigned philosophy. Write 2 or 3 interview questions that a principal might ask a prospective teacher. Ensure the questions are specific enough to distinguish whether or not the prospective teacher would be a good fit at a school that fully embraces your group’s assigned philosophy.

· For each interview question, write the type of answer the principal would prefer to hear from a teacher that would be an ideal fit for the school. Ensure that the answers reflect the philosophy assigned to your group.

Activity Option 4: Back-to-School Night

· Envision that you are a teacher preparing to speak to your student’s parents on Back-to-School Night. Both you and the school where you teach fully adopt your group’s assigned philosophy. Write a paragraph or 2 explaining to the parents the most important things you want them to know about your class and your instruction. Ensure that what you share with them represents the philosophy of the school (which is the same as the philosophy assigned to your group).

Activity Option 5: Parent-Teacher Conference

· Envision that you are a teacher responding to a VIP (Very Irate Parent) in a parent-teacher conference. Both you and the school where you teach fully adopt your group’s assigned philosophy. The parent, however, adopts an educational philosophy in opposition to yours and your school.

· Write a brief statement explaining the complaint that the parent has against you and your approach to teaching. Ensure that it represents an opposing view to your group’s assigned philosophy.

· Write a response you would give to the parent’s complaint. The response must align with your group’s assigned philosophy.
