The paper will be on the “sheepskin effect.” This refers to the idea that getting a college degree is important as a signal to the labor market of competence or grit. In this view of college education completing, say, 3.5 years of undergraduate work put you at a substantial earnings disadvantage in the labor market relative to those who have completed their degrees. From a human capital point of view, this doesn’t make sense because each person in the above example would have almost the same acquired skills, so they should have similar earnings. So we will investigate the earnings of those with three years of undergraduate work compared to those that have completed their degrees.
The paper will have three parts. Literature review, empirical results and discussion and concluding remarks; and tables and references
