Draw a sketch to represent the compound microscope and an object, which meets the following specifications. The two lenses should share the same optical axis. The distance from the object to the objective lens should be between the focal length and 2 times the focal length of the objective lens. The position and focal length of the “eyepiece” lens will be determined in step 3 below.

2. Draw a ray diagram to show the position and size of the image that produced by the objective lens.

3. In a compound microscope, the image produced by the objective lens is the object for the eyepiece lens. The eyepiece lens will be placed so that the image from the objective lens is between the two lenses, and is at a focal point of the eyepiece lens. Add an eyepiece lens to create an arrangement in your sketch.

4. Add rays to show how light will travel after passing through the eyepiece lens. Do the rays converge or diverge? Does the eyepiece lens form a real or virtual image? If so, what is its location?

5. Does the microscope form an image that could be projected on a screen? If so, where should the screen be placed? If not, should it be possible to adjust the microscope so that it could project an image on a screen?
